Upper Wharfedale includes the northern end of Wharfedale itself, and Langstrothdale, and is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The three civil parishes in the area are:

Kilnsey and Conistone lying on either side of the Wharfe at the southern end of Upper Wharfedale, watched over by the impressive landmark of Kilnsey Crag.

Kettlewell with Starbotton parish consisting of Kettlewell - the largest village in the Upper Wharfedale area - together with Starbotton two miles to the north.

Buckden parish at the top of Wharfedale and including the hamlet of Cray, as well as those of Langstrothdale: Hubberholme, Raisgill, Yockenthwaite, Deepdale, Beckermonds, Oughtershaw and Greenfield.
