How can we make the World a better place?

Based on the experience of living in the real world for 86 years it has been obvious to me for a long time that there is a real need for a simple message in a Christian context which will inspire and encourage people to live a lifestyle which makes the world a better place for the mutual benefit of all of us. What better message then than: “Live a life of LOVE….helping one another”.

This message describes accurately the lifestyle of many of the kindest, most helpful and happiest people (family, friends, Church community, members of the St Vincent de Paul Society etc.) whom I have ever had the pleasure of knowing in my lifetime. Furthermore, by their example, these good people unselfishly continue to pass on this help and happiness to many other people and are indeed a great source of inspiration to others.

The “Live a life of LOVE….helping one another” logo has been designed to promote the message in a Christian context for the benefit of others and particularly children.

The word LOVE is chosen as the focal point of the message because it is indeed at the heart of our Christian faith. It is very meaningful in a caring context and the key to compassion. Similarly the later part of the message “helping one another” is also very meaningful in a caring context. Without doubt, the word LOVE is the driving force behind this message.

Many domestic problems can arise within the home when the remedy could be quite simply to “Live a life of LOVE….helping one another”.

On a more personal note, for many years I have been enjoying the proposed lifestyle by visiting sick and elderly people and helping them wherever possible. However due to the effects of what they call “old age”, reluctantly I have recently found it necessary to curtail these activities. My thanks to some of the good people described in the second paragraph of this write-up for filling the vacant gap and for helping me personally. Having received this help first hand has really made me appreciate the benefits of being helped and hopefully this experience (role reversal) will add to the authenticity of this campaign.

Hopefully the simple message “Live a life of LOVE….helping one another” will become a powerful part of a pleasurable lifestyle for more and more people and make the world a better place.

Crucially we should keep in touch with the good Lord who, I believe, has played an important part in the development of this initiative.

My sincere thanks to His Eminence Cardinal Cormac Murphy o’Connor, His Grace Archbishop Arthur Roche, Mgr. Andrew Summersgill, Mgr. Patrick Hennessey, the late Fr. Peter Dawber, and of course the good Lord himself for their help and encouragement.

P.S.: The answer to the opening question “How can we make the World a better place?”, is of course “Live a life of LOVE….helping one another”!!
