Buckden Village Institute Centenary Appeal – Message from Richard Barlow Dear friend, Buckden Village Institute is 100 years old this year – and over the last five years the committee has undertaken a range of improvements including:
These last two items have been more expensive than expected largely because the work, once started, has proved more extensive than had been thought. Although we have received Big Lottery funding, this has not been sufficient to cover the full cost and the balance has had to come from Institute reserves, which are now very low. Furthermore, there is still more work necessary to bring the building up to the standard required. The committee have therefore decided to have a “Centenary Appeal” to raise money to ensure that the building is in a fit state to serve as the hub of our community well into the next 100 years, and that the committee is able to continue to maintain the building. The target is to raise £7000 over the next 12 months – the difference between the cost of the refurbishment work and the amount received from the Big Lottery.
