St Margaret Clitherow, Threshfield is part of the Roman Catholic parish of St Stephen's, Skipton. The church is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and serves the communities of Upper Wharfedale, including Littondale and extending as far north as Langstrothdale.

While the geographical area served by the church is very large, there are fewer than 80 parishioners although the congregation is significantly increased by the numerous holiday makers who come to the upper dale, and who are always welcome.

The church was built in 1973, and is one of very few churches dedicated to local saint St Margaret Clitherow who was martyred in York in 1586.

Mass is said every Sunday at 09.00 by our Parish Priest, Fr. Christopher Angel.

Fr. Peter's Funeral arrangements - more details Fr Peter’s request was that his funeral should take place at the Cathedral and that the night before his body be received into the Church in Bentham by his family and parishioners. He also arranged that his body be buried privately in Bentham after the funeral.

To join in prayer for Fr Peter, Mass will be celebrated in St Stephen’s at the same time as the Mass in Bentham. Mgr Pat Hennessy has kindly agreed to preach and everyone is invited to Mass at St Stephen’s at 7-00pm on Tuesday, 24 July 2012

To make it a little easier to travel to the Cathedral, for those who would like, coach transport will be available from St Margaret Clitherow and St Stephen’s on Wednesday, 25 July 2012. We need to know numbers for the coach firm (Hargreaves), so please sign up on the lists in the Churches on Sunday. The coaches will leave from St Margaret’s, Threshfield at 9-15am and from St Stephen’s (Gargrave Road) at 9-45am. The funeral Mass is scheduled to begin at 12-00Noon, so travelling a little earlier gives time to get there easily and to find seating.

On return from the Cathedral (which is likely to be at around 3-00pm), the Social Committee has kindly arranged a reception in the Easter Room in Skipton. The coach to Threshfield will leave from St Stephen’s at around 4-30pm so that we can all share together. If you intend to travel independently to the Cathedral, please feel able to join us in the Easter Room on your return.

It is important to have numbers this weekend, as we need to confirm the coach arrangements before midday on Monday. So if there is anyone who is not at Mass who you think might like to join us, please ask them to leave a message on 01756 793000 or send an e-mail to me on andrew.summersgill@dioceseofleeds.org.uk by 11-00am on Monday, 23 July 2012.

Update on Plans for the Buildings at St Stephens - Following our consultations in March, the architects are now working on plans for the development of St Monica’s to provide accommodation and care facilities for older people. They are also working on the plans to develop the Old School as a Parish and Community Centre and also to restore and renovate the Old Presbytery so that it can once again become the Presbytery. We are hoping to be able to submit a planning application during the summer. We are also starting to have talks with partners who will be able to work with us on the developments and the provision of the facilities within the new development. There is unlikely to be too much “news” for the next few weeks while the professionals get on with their work!
