The Land Letting:

For at least 300 years (and possibly more) on the first Monday after New Year's Day a "parliament" has been held at the George Inn at Hubberholme (left). The grazing rights to a 16 acre "poor pasture" are auctioned by the Vicar, with the auction finishing when the candle on the bar burns out. L. to R. The Rev. The Pageant - 1953

In June 1953, a pageant was held to celebrate the Coronation. The Pageant was set in the time of Queen Elizabeth 1 with local people playing historical roles. It was organised by Mr. Jackson, formerly of Grange Farm, who provided all the costumes. There were demonstrations of traditional crafts such as wool carding, spinning and spoke shaving, dancing on the village green and fireworks at the end of the day.

"When we are Married"

In early 1958, J.B. Priestley's play "When we are Married" was performed in the Institute with a local cast. Priestley loved the area and his ashes are buried at Hubberholme Church.
